Afro-Surinamese are the inhabitants of Suriname of Sub-Saharan African ancestry. They are descended from enslaved Africans brought to work on sugar plantations. Many of them escaped the plantations and formed independent settlements together, becoming known as Maroons and Bushinengue. They maintained vestiges of African culture and language. They are split into two ethnic subgroups (Creoles and Maroons).

Составляют около 37 % населения Суринама. Африканцы в Суринаме делятся на две группы: креолов (мулатов) и маронов (фр. les Marrons, также «marronage» — маронство, одичание, возвращение в дикое состояние). Суринамские креолы являются потомками смешанной расы африканских рабов и европейцев. Мароны — беглые африканские рабы, которые в джунглях образовали независимые поселения. Мароны сохранили остатки африканской культуры и языка.
