abstract	Starting out as a three-piece, Carcass were one of Earache Records grindcore flagships. The late BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel declared their first album,%22Reek Of Putrefaction,%22 was his favorite album of 1988. The 1990 Symphonies Of Sickness tour saw the addition of a second guitarist Mike Amott, formerly of Carnage. 1991's %22Necroticism%22 album was the band's first studio work as a four piece. After their fourth album, first to appear on a major commercial label Columbia Records,%22Heartwork%22, the band proceeded to split up during the recording process of their final album %22Swansong.%22Reformed for live shows in 2007 with Mike Amott back in as second guitarist and Daniel Erlandsson of Arch Enemy as session drummer. Original drummer Ken Owen had suffered a brain hemorrhage and he is hence unable to perform the songs in a live setting, however he retains an active role in the band. Amott and Erlandsson left the band in 2012 to focus on Arch Enemy.In February 2013 the band announced that after 17 years, a new album was at works. dbo:abstract	Carcass are a British extreme metal band from Liverpool, who formed in 1985 and disbanded in 1995. A reformation was enacted in 2007 without one of its original members, drummer Ken Owen, due to health reasons.Carcass are regarded as pioneers of the grindcore genre. Their early work was also tagged as splatter death metal, hardgore, and goregrind; on account of their morbid lyrics and gruesome album covers. They also became one of the pioneers of melodic death metal with their 1993 album Heartwork.
