  • News of this pianist blues are very scarce, beginning with the date of birth that the main sources place it around 1897, others from 1900 to 1905, however, the place of birthis indicated by all sources as Elljay in Georgia.Charlie Spand worked mainly in Chicago (Illinois) with musicians such as Little Brother Montgomery and Jimmy Yancey.Recorded 22 tracks for Paramount Records between 1929 and 1931 and eight songs for Okeh in 1940.After the war he left Chicago (apparently) for Los Angeles (California).The date of death is not known at the time.
