abstract
  • Foreign Objects was Deron Miller and Jess Margera's first project together, formed in 1994 at the tail end of Deron's previous band, This End Up. They released their first EP in 1995. Deron and Jess were the only permanent members of the band, Deron playing guitar, and bass as well as singing on the record and Jess on drums. When playing live they had various different bassists. When they realized that Foreign Objects wasn't taking off, they switched their style and started recording as Oil (15). Foreign Objects never broke up in the traditional sense. They continued to record Foreign Objects songs with intentions of making an album at friend John Teague's house between recording Oil material and what would eventually become CKY's first album, until Deron and Jess halted recording for the project in October 1998 to focus their time on CKY's growing popularity. Two complete demos wound up on their Lifeline EP and the album's 10 tracks were eventually circulated, in instrumental demo form, on various CKY releases and skate/surf videos. In 2003, John Teague built a new recording studio in the house that he had purchased and had done some new mixes of the old Foreign Objects material. This led to Deron finishing the album, adding vocals, overdubs, and lead guitar solos by guitarist James Murphy. In 2004 the finished Foreign Objects album released as Universal Culture Shock.
