Best known for his hits %22He's Gonna Step On You Again%22 and %22Tokoloshe Man%22, John Kongos has sold over 25 million copies as a songwriter and/or artist since the 1970's, with various Number One and Top Ten hits in England, France, Germany, Australia, South Africa and other countries. He wrote numerous Jingles, TV and Film Themes (including The Greek Tycoon, Cat's Eyes, Fraggle Rock (Traveling Matt), London Program, Sunday Sunday, etc.).He also ran his home-studios John Kongos Studio and Tapestry Studios in London from1971 to 1988 before relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, where he started Tokoloshe Records with his four sons.

He is best known for his 1971 Top 10 hit single, %22He's Gonna Step on You Again%22, on which 90's band Happy Mondays based their hit Step On. Kongos's other big hit was %22Tokoloshe Man%22, which features on the TV show Life On Mars and the CD soundtrack. His second album Kongos made the Top 30 of the UK Albums Chart, but subsequent singles, %22Great White Lady%22 (1972), %22Ride the Lightning%22 (1975) and %22Higher than God's Hat%22 (1975), did not chart.
