abstract
  • Konkhra was orignally formed as Vicious Circle in Denmark in 1989 by Anders Lundemark (bass, vocals), Claus Vedel (guitar, vocals) and Jon Clausen (drums). In 1990 they released the self-titled demo, %22Vicious Circle%22, and shortly after they changed name to Konkhra. Lundemark then switched to guitar and Martin Kristensen (bass) was added to the line-up. In 1991 the second demo, %22Malgrowth%22, was released and it was followed by the MCD %22Stranded%22 in 1992. In 1993 Clausen and Kristensen left Konkhra and were replaced by Lars Schmidt (bass) and Johnny Nielsen (drums). The debut album %22Sexual Affective Disorder%22 was then recorded and released same year through their new label, Diehard Music. Co-founder Vedel eventually left the band and was replaced by Kim Mathiesen (guitar) and in 1994 the EP %22Spit or Swallow%22 was released. In 1996 Mathiesen and Nielsen left the band to form their own, Facelift. Thomas Christensen (bass) was then recruited. Contacts were made and Chris Kontos (drums) who had just left Machine Head was able to play with the band. They then flew to the US where the album was going to be recorded. James Murphy (guitar) who had just stopped working with Testament agreed to work with the band and so the album %22Weed out the Weak%22 was recorded and in 1996 it was released. Because of the distance between the members a lot of tour problems occured and they had to pass on offers from bands like Obituary, Death and others. They then decided to move on without Chris Kontos and James Murphy and hired Per M. Jensen (drums) and Lars Mayland (guitar) instead, who later became permanent members. In 1999 Kristensen was replaced by the returning Lars Schmidt and together the band recorded the EP %22The Freakshow%22 and the album %22Come Down Cold%22 which were released same year. In 2000 Per M. Jensen and Lars Mayland were replaced by returning Johnny Nielsen and Kim Mathiesen and in 2002 they recorded the album %22Reality Check%22 which was released the following year through their new label Code 666.
