However, after the release in 1997 of [r=401622] featuring Lisa Germano, Joey and John's other side project, Calexico, begun the same year, took all of their attention and the OP8 project was shelved.

Critics acclaimed its experimental flourishes and great songwriting, although it was never destined to be a commercial success.
