| - The legendary and influential punk/alternative quartet Social Distortion was formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California by frontman Mike Ness and then-guitarist Dennis Danell. The band underwent lineup changes before releasing their first album, %22Mommy's Little Monster%22, in 1983. A year earlier, Social Distortion embarked on their first national tour with fellow punk band Youth Brigade – a trip chronicled in the celebrated punk rockumentary, %22Another State Of Mind%22. Soon afterward, John Maurer and Bob Stubbs joined Social Distortion. After 1985, the band reformed and Chris Reese came on board as the band's drummer.Social Distortion disappeared for a while before releasing their second album, %22Prison Bound%22, in 1988, which would be their first recording with the classic lineup of Ness, Danell and newcomers John Maurer on bass and Christopher Reece on drums. In 1989, the band signed a deal with Epic Records and recorded their highly successful third album, which is self-titled, containing their popular hits %22Story Of My Life%22 and %22Ball And Chain%22 as well as the Johnny Cash cover %22Ring Of Fire%22.The band disappeared again after the release of their fourth album, 1992's %22Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell%22, and Reece left Social Distortion in 1993. After auditions were held to play drums in the band, former D.O.A./Danzig drummer Chuck Biscuits joined Social Distortion to record their next album, %22White Light, White Heat, White Trash%22, in 1996, which would be their last release on Epic Records. In 1999, while Social Distortion wasn't touring, Ness went solo, releasing two albums, %22Cheating At Solitaire%22 and %22Under The Influences%22, in the same year. Although some of Social Distortion's songs paid homage to country music artists, %22Cheating At Solitaire%22 was an unalloyed expression of Ness's country influences. His second solo album, %22Under The Influences%22, contains country covers. Before the band could work on their sixth album, Danell passed away on February 29, 2000 in his Newport Beach home after apparently suffering a brain aneurysm, leaving Ness as the only remaining original member of the band. Danell was replaced by current guitarist Jonny Wickersham. Biscuits also left during that time, and was replaced by Charlie Quintana.Following Danell's death, Social Distortion continued touring and their sixth album, %22Sex, Love And Rock 'N' Roll%22, was released on September 28, 2004. After it was completed, Maurer quit the band and was briefly replaced by Rancid's Matt Freeman. Months later, Freeman was replaced by current bassist Brent Harding, who was also part of Ness' solo tour.In April 2009, Quintana announced that he was leaving the band to explore other musical opportunities. He was temporarily replaced by Angels & Airwaves drummer Adam %22Atom%22 Willard, formerly of Rocket From the Crypt and Offspring, and then Scott Reeder of Fu Manchu. Their current drummer David Hidalgo, Jr., who once toured but never recorded with Suicidal Tendencies, joined in 2010. In January 2011, Social Distortion released their seventh studio album %22Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes%22.

| - Social Distortion is an American punk rock band formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California. The band currently consists of Mike Ness (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jonny Wickersham (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Brent Harding (bass, backing vocals), David Hidalgo, Jr. (drums), and David Kalish (keys).Social Distortion went on a temporary hiatus in the mid-1980s, due to frontman Ness' drug addiction and troubles with the law which resulted in extended stints in various rehabilitation centers that lasted for two years. Since its inception, the band lineup has been a virtual revolving-door of talent with many members coming and going – Ness has been the only constant member. After 37 years of performing, Social Distortion continues to tour and record music. To date, Social Distortion has released seven full-length studio albums, two compilations, one live album, and two DVDs. They released two albums — Mommy's Little Monster (1983) and Prison Bound (1988) — before signing a three-album contract with Epic Records in 1989. Social Distortion rose to fame with their 1990 self-titled third album, which produced their well-known hit singles %22Ball and Chain%22, %22Story of My Life%22, and the cover of Johnny Cash's %22Ring of Fire%22, and was certified gold by RIAA. Many of their later albums, including their second gold record Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell (1992), were also well received. They are considered one of the best-selling punk rock bands, with more than three million albums sold worldwide.
