  • Gospel oriented close harmony ensemble. Formed in 1930 in Ohio. Worked frquently with Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. The group also made appearances in motion pictures and toured in the musical revue Hellzapoppin'. Lead singer Billy Williams (5) left the group for a better record deal. Part of that deal was to ditch Charioteers and getting on with Billy Williams Quartet. After his departure, the group failed to remain succes and quit in 1957.
