The song was Thomas' first chart entry on the Juke Box Folk Records chart and was also his most successful release: %22Sioux City Sue%22 spent four weeks at number one and a total of twenty-three weeks on the charts.Gene Autry sang this title song in the movie, the first film he made after leaving military service at the end of World War II. Bing Crosby also had a hit with this song.
