definition
  • The ~5um thick accessory pharyngeal nerve (Miller, 1950) contains axons connecting with the lower, anterior half of the adult head capsule. The two contralateral nerves closely parallel the pharyngeal nerves in their exit from the mandibular neuromere of the subesophageal ganglion, but penetrate at a lower level into the space between the anterior cibarial plate and the dilator muscles. From here, the nerve enters the labrum to connect with its muscles and sense organs.
