The sedimentary rocks of formation were deposited in floodplain environments and contain vertebrate fossils, including a diverse assemblage of dinosaur remains. In 1973, the Cloverly Formation Site was designated as a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service. La Formación Cloverly , es una formación geológica datada alrededor de 112 a 99,6 millones de años atrás en el Albiense durante el Cretácico inferior, en el bajo de Bighorn, en el límite entre los estados de Montana y Wyoming, en Estados Unidos, incluyendo el estrato anteriormente llamado Formación Dakota.
