Dexmethylphenidate, sold under the brand name Focalin among others, is a strong central nervous system (CNS) stimulant medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in those over the age of five years. If no benefit is seen after four weeks it is reasonable to discontinue its use. It is taken by mouth. The immediate release formulation lasts up to five hours while the extended release formulation lasts up to twelve hours.

Es ist das pharmakologisch aktive (2R,2′R)-Enantiomer des Methylphenidats und wird wie die racemische Form zur Behandlung der Aufmerksamkeitsdefizit-/Hyperaktivitätsstörung (ADS/ADHS) eingesetzt, jedoch in geringerer Dosierung. Für die Umstellung von Patienten von Methylphenidat auf Dexmethylphenidat gilt, dass eine Dosis Dexmethylphenidat der Hälfte einer Dosis Methylphenidat entspricht.
