Ingram Bywater, FBA (27 June 1840 – 18 December 1914) was an English classical scholar. He was born in Islington, London and first educated first at University College School and King's College School, then at Queen's College, Oxford. He obtained a first class in Moderations (1860) and in the final classical schools (1862), and became fellow of Exeter College, Oxford (1863), reader in Greek (1883), Regius Professor of Greek (1893–1908), and Student of Christ Church. He received honorary degrees from various universities, and was elected corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences.

Se educó en el University College School y en el King's College School; posteriormente, en el Queens College de Oxford. Obtuvo las notas más elevadas en estudios clásicos y después se hizo miembro del Exeter College de Oxford (1863). En 1883 recibió el título de reader en griego; de 1893 a 1908 ejerció en Oxford como regius professor of Greek; también fue student en la Christ Church. Varias universidades le dieron títulos honoríficos y se le eligió miembro corresponsal de la Academia Prusiana de las Ciencias.

Bywater, der Sohn eines Pastors, besuchte nacheinander die , die und das Queen’s College in Oxford. Nach dem Studienabschluss wurde er 1863 Fellow am Exeter College in Oxford. 1883 wurde er zum Reader in Greek ernannt, 1893 zum Regius Professor of Greek. Seine Antrittsvorlesung hatte den Titel Four Centuries of Greek Learning in England.
