The Poodle, called the Pudel in German and the Caniche in French, is a breed of water dog. The breed is divided into four varieties based on size, the Standard Poodle, Medium Poodle, Miniature Poodle and Toy Poodle, although the Medium Poodle variety is not universally recognised. They have a distinctive thick, curly coat, and come in many colors, with only solid ones recognized by breed registries. While a reasonably healthy breed, they are prone to sebaceous adenitis and Addison's disease among other genetic disorders.

  • Der Pudel (französisch caniche; italienisch barboncino) ist eine von der FCI anerkannte Hunderasse (FCI-Gruppe 9, Sektion 2, Standard-Nr. 172). Pudel sind lebhaft und haben eine wollige, gekräuselte Behaarung. Sie werden anhand ihrer Größe unterschiedlich benannt: Großpudel (auch Königspudel), Kleinpudel (auch Mittelpudel), Zwergpudel und Toy-Pudel. Die FCI hat die Verantwortung für den Rassestandard und die Entwicklung der Rasse Frankreich zugewiesen. Andere Zuchtverbände gehen in ihren Rassebeschreibungen davon aus, dass die Rasse in Deutschland entstand. Auch in der Encyclopædia Britannica und der Columbia Encyclopedia findet sich diese Aussage zur Herkunft der Rasse.
