Prunus mume is an East Asian and Southeast Asian tree species classified in the Armeniaca section of the genus Prunus subgenus Prunus. Its common names include Chinese plum, Japanese plum, and Japanese apricot. The flower, long a beloved subject in the traditional painting and poetry of East Asia and Vietnam, is usually called plum blossom. This distinct tree species is related to both the plum and apricot trees. Although generally referred to as a plum in English, it is more closely related to the apricot.In East Asian cuisine (Chinese, Japanese and Korean) and Vietnamese cuisine, the fruit of the tree is used in juices, as a flavouring for alcohol, as a pickle and in sauces. It is also used in traditional medicine.

  • L'abricotier du Japon, mume, ume ou umé (Prunus mume (Sieb.) Sieb. et Zucc.) est un arbuste à fruits à noyau du genre Prunus, rattaché à la vaste famille des Rosaceae. Il appartient avec l'abricotier P. armeniaca et les autres abricotiers du monde, au sous-genre Prunus section Armeniaca du genre Prunus. Son aire d'origine se situe dans les régions centrales du sud de la Chine (Sichuan et Yunnan) et sa culture s'est répandue dans tout l'Extrême-Orient. Il est profondément associé à l'art et la littérature des grandes civilisations de ces régions.
  • Ume (Prunus mume; von jap. 梅, kana うめ), auch Japanische Aprikose, Japanische Pflaume oder Winterkirsche, ist eine Pflanzenart aus der Gattung Prunus in der Familie der Rosengewächse (Rosaceae). Sie gehört wie die Aprikose und die Sibirische Aprikose zur Sektion Armeniaca in der Untergattung Prunus. Eine andere oft als „Japanische Pflaume“ bezeichnete Art ist die Sumomo (Prunus salicina). In Japan gibt es mehr als 300 Kultursorten der Ume. Sie werden in drei Typen eingeteilt:
  • Morela japońska, mume (Prunus mume Siebold & Zucc.) – gatunek drzewa należący do rodziny różowatych. Pochodzi z południowo-środkowych Chin i Laosu. Rozpowszechniony został już w starożytności na pozostałym obszarze Chin, w Korei, Japonii i na Tajwanie.
