Dianoia (Greek: διάνοια, ratio in Latin) is a term used by Plato for a type of thinking, specifically about mathematical and technical subjects. Dianoia is the human cognitive capacity for, process of, or result of discursive thinking, and stands in contrast to the immediate, cognitive process of intuitive apprehension or noesis (noesis). 'Dianoia' is also the name of a quarterly newsletter of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
