Australosyodon is an extinct genus of dinocephalian therapsids from the middle Permian of South Africa. The first fossil was discovered in the 1980s near the village of Prince Albert Road in the Karoo region of South Africa.

  • Australosyodon ist eine ausgestorbene Gattung primitiver Therapsiden („säugetierähnlicher Reptilien“) auf dem mittleren Perm Südafrikas. Nahe verwandt mit der Gattung Syodon aus der russischen -Fauna stellt Australosyodon den frühesten Fund eines Vertreters der Dinocephalia außerhalb Russlands dar. Die Fossilien von Australosyodon stammen aus der -Assemblage-Zone, der untersten Gesteinsbank der südafrikanischen Beaufort-Gruppe und weist auf die Existenz früher, primitiver Therapsiden in der südlichen Hemisphäre hin. Die Erstbeschreibung veröffentlichte im Jahr 1994.

L'espèce type et seule espèce, Australosyodon nyaphuli, a été décrite par (d) en 1994.
